1.1 Corn starch instead of tapioca starch

As of November 8 in 2017, the price of imported tapioca starch in China is 3100-3180 yuan/ton (excluding tax), which is up 400-450 yuan/ton from the end of September. The price difference between starch and corn starch has been enlarged to about 800 yuan / ton. Due to the cost performance advantage of corn starch, some enterprises use corn starch instead of tapioca starch to increase the demand for corn starch, thus supporting the corn starch market.
From the potential of replacing tapioca starch, corn starch cannot completely replace tapioca starch. Compared to corn starch, tapioca starch can withstand long cooking times, maintains performance during food hot processing and freezing, and still has high viscosity and clear characteristics after complete dissolution. The alternative fields of tapioca starch and corn starch are mainly in the chemical and food fields. The downstream demand for corn starch accounts for 20% of the total demand for corn starch in the chemical papermaking and food fields, and the replacement space for corn starch and tapioca starch is relatively limited. 1.2 Corn starch syrup instead of white sugar
From the potential of replacing sugar, the main products of corn starch syrup include crystalline glucose, maltose syrup, fructose syrup and maltodextrin, although the same as starch syrup, but the main application areas of them are different. The ratio of corn syrup produced by corn starch is about 1:0.6. The total export volume of glucose and fructose in China may be around 1.25 million tons.
